Armenia is a mystical land that evokes centuries past while awakening your senses to the present

 

DAY 1. ARRIVAL

Arrive in Yerevan at Zvartnots Airport. Passport control, issuing of visas. Check-in to hotel.

 

DAY 2. YEREVAN SIGHTSEENG TOUR - GARNI-GEGHARD-YEREVAN

Breakfast. Tour  the capital city of the Republic of Armenia will include visits to:

Matenadaran - The Research Institute of Armenia which houses beautiful centuries old illuminated manuscripts created by scribes.

Tsitsernakaberd Monument and Museum - Built in 1965, this monument commemorates the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Garni - The pagan temple is  an outstanding monument of  Hellenistic culture in Armenia. The temple was built in the second half of the 1st century BC. In 1679 the temple was destroyed by an earthquake. In 1975 the temple was restored.

Visit a traditional Armenian bakery and bake your own lavash, the delicious national bread of Armenia. Will taste it and have a lunch at the same place.

Geghard - The names came from the legendary lance, supposedly the one used to pierce the body of Christ, which was long kept here.

The time of foundation of the monastery is not established. The present architectural complex was constructed in the middle of 13th century. The main church-Katoghike is one of the oldest buildings in the complex. Return to Yerevan .

 Evening: Dinner and  “Welcome party” in one of Yerevan’s  traditional  Armenian restaurant with traditional food and Armenian folklore.

 

DAY 3. KHOR VIRAP-ARENI-NORAVANK- SISIAN

Visit Khor Virap - the site where St.Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned by the Armenian king for preaching Christianity. You can climb down into the dark pit. Enjoy most spectacular view of the glorious Mt.Ararat. Drive through the mountaine to Vayots Dzor Province.

 Visit  Noravank - a 13th century monastery with beautiful cross stone.

Then we will continue our visit to Areni village. There we will have lunch. And visit “Areni Winery”, where the group will take part in winemaking and taste it.

Our tour continues to Sisian.

Overnight in guesthouse.

 

DAY 4. SISIAN - TATEV - KARAHUNJ - FOLLOW THE SILK ROAD TO LAKE SEVAN

Visit a Karahunj is known as the Armenian Stonehenge. Then,  follow the Old Silk Road climbing up to the Selim Pass  the best preserved Carvanserai in Armenia. Descend  to Lake Sevan.

No trip to Armenia is ever complete without a visit to  Lake Sevan, one of the largest and highest altitude lakes in Eurasia, at about 1,900 meters above sea level. Visit the churches of Arakelots and  Astvatsatsin.

You can stroll along the beach, and the evening will end with a picnic on the beach, where you can help prepare Sevsn’s famouse trout and crayfishe.

Overnight in Tsapatagh, Sevan.

 

DAY 5. SEVAN-NORADUZ-ECHMIADZIN-YEREVAN

Noraduz - famous for its cemetery of 10300 khachkars (stone crosses).

Echmiadzin, Armenian’s Holy See- Visit  Echmiadzin Cathedral, the most ancient Christian temple in Armenia and the Holy See of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Check out the underground site of the pagan temple upon which the present cathedral stands. Visit the Museum and  Churches of  St. Gayane and St. Hripsime. Lunch.

Visit the ruins of Zvartnots. Return to Yerevan. Visit Markets, and Vernissage an open air weekend handicraft market.

 DAY 6. DEPARTURE
